“Albany International Airport will be a great destination for Alitalia as it sits in a perfect location on the highway,” Miller said in the statement. “Alitalia is committed to serving Albany and the surrounding community as a hub for tourism and a location for air travelers to travel and work.”

State Senator David Linsky, who was among a number of lawmakers on the committee that voted to put forward the legislation, said, “The news is bad. My condolences are very much with those of the victims and their families.”

Mayor Lovely Warren also expressed her condolences.

“Airport safety is an ongoing and highly-sensitive issue,” she said in a statement to the Albany Times-Union. “All airports across the nation are working with FAA aviation investigators to review the terminal facilities and determine if there are any options or alternatives for short-haul air service and to identify specific options to improve the airport.”
